On 22 September 2014, Dr. Sumet Tantivejkul, Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation, gave an opening remark at the opening ceremony of the international training course on Sufficiency Economy in the Context of Agricultural Development which was held during 22-30 September 2014 at the Tawanna Bangkok Hotel, Surawong Road, Bangkok. Participants from 6 ASEAN countries including Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Philippines participated in this course. On this occasion, Deputy Director - General of the Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also gave a keynote speech in the opening ceremony.
Dr. Suleeporn Choopavang, Director of Foreign Affairs of the Chaipattana Foundation welcomed the group and briefed about the Chaipattana Foundation and His Majesty’s Development Works. Prof. Dr. Somjai Phagaphasvivat, a renowned academic figure was invited to talk about ASEAN Context of Sustainable Development, and a brief on Putting Sufficiency Economy Philosophy into Practice was given by Mr. Martin Wheeler, a successful farmer.
On 25 September 2014, the group visited the Huay Sai Royal Development Study Center, Cha-am district, Phetchaburi province, the group was welcomed and learn how to use vetiver grass to improve soil quality. The study tour on demonstration plots was guided by staff of the center. Later on the group visited Agricultural Learning Center of Mr. Samrong Taengpulp, successful farmer who applies sufficiency economy principles.
On 26 September 2014, the group visited the Laem Phak Bia Environmental Research and Development Project, Phetchaburi province. Prof. Dr. Kasem Chankaew, director of the project gave a briefing on the project implementation regarding waste water management. Later on the group went for a study tour in the project and visited the mangrove forests.
On 27 September 2014, the group visited the Chaipattana Vegetable Oil Refining and Bio-Diesel Integrated Production Plant, Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khirikhan Province. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sunchai Klinpikul, expert on the bio-diesel oil production welcomed the group and briefed on the Renewable Energy Development and activities on bio-diesel oil and soap making as well as study tour around palm oil farm.
On 28 September 2014, M.R. Srichalerm Kanjanapoo, the Chaipattana Foundation’s Director of Planning and Evaluation and staff from the project welcomed the group and guided them on a tour around Amphawa-Chaipattananurak Conservation Project, Samut Songkhram province where a briefing and study tour on sustainable cultural conservation was given.
On 29 September 2014, Dr. Sumet Tantivejkul, Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation, presided over the closing ceremony and presentation of certificates to eleven participates at the Tawanna Bangkok Hotel, Surawong Road, Bangkok.
