Annual Religious Kathin Ceremony at Wat Mongkol Chaipattana in Saraburi Province
On 9 November 2021, at 9.00, Mr. Sumet Tantivejkul, Member and Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation presided over the royally-granted annual religious Kathin ceremony. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously granted a permission to the Chaipattana Foundation and Office of the Royal Development Projects Board (ORDPB) to organize Royal Kathin Ceremony at the Royal-initiated Mongkol Chaipattana Temple, Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Saraburi Province.
Formerly, this temple was named Wat Mongkol. It was established during the reign of King Rama IV (in 1867) and was firstly announced in royal decree during the reign of King Rama VII (in 1931), and then on 13 March 1985, respectively.
Later, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great changed the temple's name from Wat Mongkol to Wat Mongkol Chaipattana on 3 October, 1992.
On 25 January 1993, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great traveled to observe the operation of Wat Mongkol Chaipattana Royal-initiated Area Development Project of the Chaipattana Foundation and made a merit dedicated to Somdet Phra Naresuan Maharat at the chapel of Mongkol Chaipattana Temple.
The area at Wat Mongkol Chaipattana Royal-initiated Area Development Project serves as the New Theory demonstration center. The local villagers can adopt the concept and apply it to their own area, which will help them to become self-reliant. It is the starting point of the first New Theory in Thailand. Usually, the New Theory area is divided into 4 parts with the portions of 30:30:30:10 including pond, rice field, horticultural crops and residential area.
The concept of “Boworn”, which describes the close-knit relationship between homes, temples and schools, has been implemented with an aim to create the unity and cooperation in community.
