MOU Signing Ceremony for “Research and Development Cooperation Project on Long-term Preservation of Plant Genetic for Conservation and Use in a Sustainable Manner”
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn granted a permission to the Chaipattana Foundation to collaborate with National Science and Technology Development Agency and Maejo University in setting up “Research and Development Cooperation Project on Long-term Preservation of Plant Genetic for Conservation and Use in a Sustainable Manner” with an aim to preserve plant genetic including the conduct of long-term research and development.
On 20 June 2022, Mr. Sumet Tantivejkul, Member and Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation, Mrs. Ladawan Krasachol, Deputy Director of the National Science and Technology Development Agency, Management Division, and Mr. Weerapol Thongma, President of Maejo University joined in a Memorandum of Understanding for such cooperation in seeds preservation. The seeds which have been patented and modified their genetics by the collaboration between the Prince Chakraband Pensiri Center for Plant Development of the Chaipattana Foundation and Maejo University including vegetable seeds of Maejo University will be preserved in the National Biological Resources Seeds Bank. There are 1,533 species, divided into 9 families, which have been certified i.e. legumes, chili, eggplant, melon, cabbage, coriander, okra, spinach and flower.
