On 4 July 2022, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn traveled to the 7th Infantry Brigade, Don Kaeo Sub-district, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, to observe the Plant Genetic Preservation Project for Development of Plant Breeding According to the Royal Initiative and Thaharn Phandee Project (The Good Farmer Soldiers) at the 7th Infantry Brigade.
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously granted a permission to Prince Chakraband Pensiri Center for Plant Development of the Chaipattana Foundation to collaborate with Maejo University in Plant Genetic Preservation Project for Development of Plant Breeding. The operation requires space to preserve the genetics of various vegetable plants. By this, the area under the supervision of the 3rd Army Area has been allocated for setting the Project since Maejo University does not have enough space. The 3rd Army Area has operated this Project, as a plant genetic storage, according to the royal initiative on the area of 28 rai (11.2 acres) within the 7th Infantry Brigade. There are 3 main activities, which are the preservation of more than 1,827 plant genetics, the use of plant genetics, and learning center of vegetable genetic preservation.
On this occasion, Her Royal Highness also proceeded to the Friends for Friends Royally-granted Mango Breed Collection Project, and graciously ordered Maejo University to provide knowledge in mango propagation to farmers. The Project is aimed to be the hub of mango distribution to other areas in northern part of Thailand. Later, Her Royal Highness observed the Fruit Plants Breeds Development Project of Prince Chakraband Pensiri Center for Plant Development. The objectives of this center are to conserve, improve and develop fruit breeds of Thailand.
After that, Her Royal Highness proceeded to Thaharn Phandee Project (The Good Farmer Soldiers) at the 7th Infantry Brigade, located on an area of 73 rai (29.3 acres). The Project was set up with an intention to be a demonstration center of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy of King Rama IX, and to be an area for military personnel to carry out agricultural activities. Meanwhile, the ideas and concepts derived from here could be applied in their daily life as well. On this occasion, Her Royal Highness opened a sign of the Royally-granted Poultry Breeding Center “Friends for Friends” in the upper northern region. The center aims to be a production center of layer-duck for distribution. So far, the center has already distributed 5,060 layer-ducks to the public.
