Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Travels to Observe the Operation Progress of the Chaipattana Foundation's Projects in Chiang Rai Province
On 15 February 2022, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn traveled to follow up on the activities of the “Bengal Goat Domestication Project of the Chaipattana Foundation”, Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai Province. Her Royal Highness granted a permission to Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage and the Chaipattana Foundation to breed Black Bengal goats and maintain the pure breed Bengal goats. Moreover, Her Royal Highness suggested conducting researches and experiments on how to produce hybrid local black Bengal goats that provide quality meat and milk and can well-adapt to the environment. The goat breeds include Saanen and hybrid Saanen, which will further produce other 2-3 breeds. The goats will be thereafter distributed to people. At present, there are 388 goats which are 262 Black Bengal goats, 22 Saanen goats and 104 hybrid goats. In 2021, 222 royally-granted goats were presented to people. In 2022, it is expected to have 250 royally-granted goats including 170 Black Bengal goats, 72 Saanen goats and 8 hybrid goats.
After that, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn proceeded to Prince Chakraband Pensiri Center for Plant Development, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province. Last year, the Center cooperated with Mae Jo University to modify the genetic of long bean by conducting cross-breeding with other types of beans. Her Royal Highness graciously granted the names of the 4 aforementioned breeds, i.e., Suea Duu, Suea Keaw, Suea Karw, Suea Lai Pad Korn.
Additionally, the operation at the Prince Chakraband Pensiri Center for Plant Development has been conducted according to the royal initiative. The Project’s key objective is to produce quality seeds without using chemical substances. So, the growers and consumers are safe while it also helps reduce the production cost of the Center. The Center also produces biological substances and bio-substances and uses them with various types of vegetables in the Center. The results are disseminated to communities, such as the production of herbal insecticide, bio-fermented liquid, using natural pests instead of pesticide, Trichoderma, Beauveria and Metharisium. In addition, the Center received advice from Department of Agriculture in the production of nematodes to reduce the spread of pests.
Furthermore, the Center has set up the Royally-granted Rice Seeds Production Project “Friends for Friends” at Koh Chang Sub-district, Mae Sai District. At present, there are 30 farmers in San Luang Tai Village and Baan San Bun Rueng Village joining in the Project, with 416 rai (16.6 acres) of cultivating area. On this occasion, Her Royal Highness graciously had conversation with the Project’s members.
Later, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn proceeded to Tea Oil Plant and Other Oil Crops Research and Development Center, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province. The Center received tea seeds from the tea oil plantation plots from Puna and Pang Mahan Sub-districts, Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai Province with the quantity of 123,863.79 kilograms, which can be extracted to tea oil in the amount of approximately 27,000 liters.
In 2021, Her Royal Highness granted a permission to change the name of tea seed oil to “Camellia Seed Oil” and change the bottle of oil from the rectangle glass bottle to light sensitive round bottle in order to maintain the quality tea oil. The mentioned product was launched in “PatPat Camellia Seed Oil Festival” on 24 February 2022 at the EmQuartier Department Store, Bangkok.
On 17 February 2022, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn traveled to observe the operation progress of “Tea Oil Plantation Project” at Pang Mahan Village, Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai province. On this occasion, Her Royal Highness visited the tea oil plantation plot of the villagers who join in the Project and attended briefing session on the report of tea oil plantation and community handicraft development by Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage. The Project’s researchers' group reported the plantation progress and research result of Camellia reticulata Lindl.
