The Royally-initiated Kaset Ruamjai Project was established in 1979 when His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great visited Khlong Tha Dan Dam Project in Hin Tang Sub-district, Mueang Nakhon Nayok District, Nakhon Nayok Province. His Majesty gave the idea regarding the empty areas under the supervision of the soldiers that, “The empty areas should be utilized to benefit both soldiers and the people, especially in terms of comprehensive agricultural vocational training.”
The Royal Thai Army has been operating in response to the royal initiative above. For instance, The Royal Thai Army assigned the Animal Department to organize helpful trainings in order to provide bodies of knowledge on sufficiency agriculture, safe agriculture, production and distribution of animal and plant varieties to those interested. This resulted in 4 projects, namely, Poultry and Ruminant Raising Project, Freshwater Fisheries Project, Plant Growing Project, and the Career Promotion Project on Processing of Agricultural Products. On this occasion, Her Royal Highness took a look at the beef cattle and buffalo breeders and bestowed the name of the new female buffalo calf, “Queen of the Dragon”. Besides, Her Royal Highness presented ducklings and chicks to the farmers in Nakhon Nayok Province.
After that, Her Royal Highness proceeded to visit and observe the operation of Thaharn Phandee Project (The Good Farmer Soldiers) at Vet Army School, Animal Department of the Royal Thai Army, which is responsible for the operation of the Royally-granted Freshwater Fisheries Production Center "Friends for Friends" in Eastern region. Also, Her Royal Highness bestowed Chitralada tilapias for breeding to the schools and learning centers in Nakhon Nayok Province; and then released Chitralada tilapias, carps, and gouramis into the rice fields in Vet Army School. While observing the operation of the royally-granted goat raising experimentation center, Her Royal Highness received 1 Bohr breeder and 1 Shami breeder from the Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development for the purpose of crossbreeding experiments at the center.
After that, Her Royal Highness observed an experiment of raising two breeds of royally-granted turkeys, i.e., American Bronze and Beltsville Small White, and bestowed the turkey breeds to the farmers. Her Royall Highness then witnessed the experiment of raising frogs designated to develop two frog species, i.e., Thung Kula rice field frog and Nakhon Nayok rice field frog. The experiment focused on the cross-breeding of two frog species in order to make them more resistant to the local climate. On this occasion, Her Royal Highness distributed the acquired hybrid froglets to the farmers as well. Later, Her Royal Highness witnessed the activity of growing safe vegetables, which was intended to be a learning source of safe vegetable cultivation for the soldier, the cadets, the vet army officers, families of the soldiers, and the people there.
