Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Observes the Activity of Rice Harvesting at Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy in Nakhon Nayok Province
On 24 November 2023, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn traveled to observe the rice harvesting at agricultural demonstration plot of Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy in Nakhon Nayok Province.
The rice harvested this time is the non-photoperiod-sensitive RD87 rice. The harvesting period is 114 days, with the yield around 730 kilograms/rai. This strain of rice can provide the highest yield at 1,053 kilograms/rai. It is also in high demand because of its physical quality-long grain with low chalky white belly. Once cooked, it gives aromatic smell with soft texture. The RD87 rice is suitable to grow in irrigated areas of central and lower northern regions of Thailand.
The Provincial Agriculture Office in Nakhon Nayok received 1,000 kilograms of royally-granted RD87 rice seeds, then distributed it to agricultural learning center and the pest management network in Nong Khum Village, Ongkharak Sub-district, Ongkharak District, Nakhon Nayok Province. The cultivation covers an area of 50 rai (20 acres), and the expected harvest is 35,500 kilograms. In the year 2024, the agricultural produces will be divided into 3 parts, i.e., 1. provided to members 2. sold to members to increase the value of yield, and 3. processed to other value added products.
